The 1935 Chung Mei Home for Chinese Boys, now a school, was one of the ADSC's 2016 Art Deco Preservation Award winners for its tasteful and historically sensitive restoration and seismic retrofit.
Tour this elegant streamlined building and check out its stunning Chinese motifs that were highlighted at this year's Preservation festivities, especially the gorgeous dragon bas relief over the main entrance.
Tours will follow a special ceremony, where a plaque honoring Dr. Charles R. Shepherd, founder of the Chung Mei Home (or “Captain,” as residents always called him) will be unveiled.
The event is free and everyone is welcome, but to attend you must RSVP to Tom Panas at either (510) 526-7507 or tmpanas@yahoo.com. Punch and cookies will be served.
